"The relentless struggle: should we cherish what we have or risk it all for a promise of something better that may never come to pass?"
I don't like to go out on sunny days—the brightness distorts my vision. Instead, I find solace in cloudy skies and murky vistas. There’s something abstract and indifferent about them. Beneath the clouds, everyone’s emotions seem to merge into a uniform hue of blue and grey, devoid of stark black and white and thus free from overt conflict. It paints a multifaceted picture of life.
A girl dressed in black perched on the ledge of a barricade, gently biting into the skin of an apple. Above, kites soared, indifferent to the struggles of a man hurrying across a busy road. Time itself seemed to slow as someone smoked the last of his cigarette—the smoke dissolving into thin air, fleeting yet potent enough to leave its mark on other people.
For someone whose life has been turned upside down, the absence of that one elusive desire can make existence bitter—even if, in hindsight, you might not have needed it after all. Life often feels like a simulation, where the net effect of our choices appears negligible if left unexamined. Much like a dating sim where skipping premium choices might leave you with a bland narrative, indulging in every option only biases your perspective. Yet, carefully reading between the lines—observing every decision—can reveal the true protagonist in a story crafted for the unique playable character that is you.
But does it all matter in the end? While the net effect might be zero, the journey enriches you—much like a painting that, though it blends a spectrum from black to white, gains depth from every smudge of color. Not everyone appreciates this nuanced interplay; after all, you can’t have pure white without the contrast of pure black.
Humans live in contradictions. As George Orwell once coined in his concept of Doublethink, we can hold opposing ideas simultaneously—believing as well as doubting, being conflicted yet content. Ultimately, it is how we choose to express ourselves and what we focus on that defines our unique path.
